For two days, a 74-year-old woman in İzmir, Turkey, had noticed a small brown object on her right upper eyelid that made her eye feel uncomfortable. When she went to the emergency department at Urla State Hospital, doctors found a tick attached to the center of her upper eyelid margin. It was moving while they examined her.
The tick was a nymph, an immature life stage, of Rhipicephalus sanguineus, the brown dog tick, according to a case report published June 30, 2026, in the Journal of Emergency Medicine Case Reports. The woman had a pet dog that occasionally roamed her garden.
