A boring Bachelorette hometown episode means good things for Charity’s journey for love

And then there were three. Bachelorette Charity Lawson visited four hometowns in this week’s episode, and it was frankly kind of boring. But at this point of a dating show, boring is actually good.

There has been no real drama since Brayden departed, and all four of the remaining guys seem lovely. That’s excellent for Charity’s prospects, but a little dull for reality television. Monday’s episode featured four delightful family visits with four delightful families.

Each date was sweet, the connections between Charity and each man seemed honest and genuine and the biggest drama of the week was Joey’s Uncle Joe saying he worried that his nephew’s people-pleasing side might have come out a little bit too much.

While it sounds like a complaint, it’s honestly nice to see Charity have a good quartet — now trio — of remaining suitors. Let’s see who is in the driver’s seat and who has work to do with a couple weeks left.

Contender

ABC/Craig Sjodin

Dotun – No offense to everyone else on this show, but if they don’t end up together, what are we even doing here? The visit with Dotun’s family was adorable, including the surprise attendance by his parents.

Xavier – Things were dicey at the end of last week for our sweet, knitting Xavier after he told Charity he was scared about committing. This week, Xavier took her to a knitting club and introduced her to his family. It was so lovely.

Work Left to Do

Joey – Dang, that tennis date was adorable. As a tennis pro, Joey has a ready-made fun date. Plus it offered up so many opportunities to demonstrate the proper technique via hand or hip touching. He was going to be in the contenders block — especially since Charity said she wanted to tell him she was falling in love — until Joey’s uncle absolutely sandbagged him by saying he thought Joey was putting on a performance to make himself more likable in Charity’s eyes.

To be clear, he wasn’t saying Joey is acting fake… just that he is notoriously a people pleaser.

Tough stuff from Uncle Joe.

Pretender

ABC/Ricky Middlesworth

Aaron B. – This is just the sad part of this point of the season. Aaron seems absolutely lovely. It’s just that someone has to go home. The couple spent the end of the evening on his hometown football field in adorable letter jackets, but the breakup felt inevitable.
