BBC pundit Michael Stewart feels Alfredo Morelos' controversially disallowed goal against Celtic should have stood.
But the former Hearts midfielder can understand why VAR didn't intervene as the error did not come under the "clear and obvious" category.
Referee Kevin Clancy has come under fire over the flash point when Morelos and Canadian defender Alistair Johnston tussled in the box.
The Ibrox club will write to the SFA to get answers over the decision-making process surrounding the chalking-off.
And Stewart can see why Rangers might be upset over what was a key moment in the game.
He said on Sportscene: "For me, quite simply it wasn't a foul. It should have been a goal," he said.
"But I can understand why Kevin Clancy gave the free kick because from his angle, it looks as if Alfredo Morelos' arm is extended and he gives Alistair Johnston a shove.
"For me, he's just trying to shake him off. He's trying to get rid of him.
"And then you say well, VAR is there to go and look at whether there has been a clear and obvious mistake that has been made.
"I'm not sure VAR looking at it would then say the ref has made a clear and obvious mistake because, as I said, from his angle it looks like it could have been a foul.
"If you just had been looking at it as an individual observer, I don't think it's a foul. I think the goal should have stood.
"It's a bitter pill to swallow for Rangers because at that stage, if you get your goal away from home, it's a massive moment. Instead they don't and obviously they've come away without anything from the game."
