Every so often, a niche sport stops being run like a pastime and starts being run like a business. Showjumping has just reached that moment, and it's galloping fast. Backed by McCourt Global, the investment firm of business billionaire Frank McCourt, the Premier Jumping League has launched with a guaranteed $300 million prize pot, the largest in the discipline's history.
The structure resembles a well-funded startup more than a traditional circuit. Sixteen investor-owned teams will compete across fourteen venues in Europe, North America, and the Middle East when the inaugural season runs from March to October 2027, according to the league, with riders drawn from a pool of 250 of the world's best through an industry-first selection process.
