Pensioner dies after being 'struck by Land Rover' on Hamilton road

A pensioner has died after he was hit by a car on a road in Hamilton yesterday.

The incident, involving a 75-year-old pedestrian and a grey Land Rover Discovery, occurred on Bothwell Road at around 8.50am on Wednesday morning. The road was closed for four hours in both directions following the collision.

The next of kin have been informed, however, formal identification, is yet to take place.

Police are appealing to the public for more information.

Police Sergeant John Houston from the Road Policing Unit said : “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

“No-one else was injured.

“North and southbound carriageways were closed for around four hours to allow crash investigations to be carried out

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place, to contact us. We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried out our investigation into this serious collision.”
