A 31-Year-Old Cracked a Bone in His Neck Playing a VR Rhythm Game, and He Never Fell

Most virtual reality injuries involve a player walking into a wall or tripping over furniture. This one involved nothing but the game itself.

A healthy 31-year-old man in Germany felt "sudden pain between his shoulder blades while playing and turning his head rapidly" during a rhythm-based VR game. He had not fallen, bumped into anything, or been struck. Yet X-rays and a CT scan showed a displaced fracture of the spinous process of his C7 vertebra, the bony bump you can feel at the base of your neck.
