94-year-old dies in Hackney crash as police appeal for witnesses

A 94-year-old pedestrian has died after being knocked over by a van in Hackney.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision between the van and Ismail Bham, which occurred at 3.46pm on Thursday February 12 at the junction of Alkham Road and Cazenove Road in Upper Clapton.

Mr Bham was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on Monday February 23. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene. The Met has confirmed that no arrests have yet been made, and enquiries are ongoing.

In their enquiries, the police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Ed Rulton, of the Met’s Serious Collisions Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Ismail’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

“As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we are appealing to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it - particularly if they have CCTV or dashcam footage.”
