£9 The Range home item that could help slash bills by £100s

A heating expert has advised people looking to slash their yearly energy bills by £100s to invest in a cheap item found in most high street stores. Despite seeming a simple fix, the expert says it could make a significant difference to how much you're spending on heating your home each year, reports Manchester Evening News.

Dave Raval is a heating and insulation expert for LoftZone. Dave is well-tuned to the problems people face while trying to heat their homes, and has come up with some simple yet efficient advice to making sure you're keeping your energy bills as low as possible. Dave, who lives in London, told The Sun : "A lot of people are making quite radical lifestyle changes at home because they are scared about the heating bill and all the other cost of living increases."

He added: The best energy saving is the energy you don’t use, so looking at where heat may be escaping is key." The 42-year-old advised people looking to keep their houses warm and to minimise energy bills as much as possible to do one thing before anything else - look for draughts.

He said: "One cold evening, go around with your hand across every window and door and feel for draughts. Older houses typically lose more heat through gaps in doors, floorboards, and windows, so it’s vital to plug these gaps."

He continued: "It is worth checking windows and doors are sealed properly, buy some cheap adhesive foam strips to block cold air, and tape around parts of your window can also help. Perhaps consider thicker curtains – door curtains used to be a popular thing which has gone out of fashion, but these are great for keeping in the heat too."

Dave also suggests draught excluders as a cheap and efficient way of retaining heat in your home pretty much immediately. According to a survey done by LoftZone, only 13% of Brits own a draught excluder, so millions of us are needlessly letting cold air into our homes.

In light of Dave's advice, the team at The Sun shared findings from a comparison of draught excluders online and on the high street. In a comparison of draught excluders from Next, Amazon, The Range and Hayes Garden World.

The Range's £8.99 Plush Bear Draught Excluder came out tops scoring 10/10 on all fronts. Unfortunately, said draught excluder is now out of stock, however, The Range has a similar style which is even cheaper, at £7.99, still in stock.
