9/11 Families Demand Closure And Accountability From Political Leaders

Terry Strada, national chair of 9/11 Families United, speaks outside Manhattan federal court on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, shortly after plea deals were announced for three men charged in the Sept. 11

Brett Eagleson, the president of 9-11 Justice, whose father was killed in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, shared his perspective on the ongoing quest for answers and closure surrounding the tragic events of that day.

Reflecting on the emotional toll of each anniversary, Eagleson emphasized the community's frustration and anger at the lack of resolution. He highlighted the heroic actions of those on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, underscoring the sacrifices made by families who lost loved ones.

Eagleson criticized the PGA Tour's recent discussions with Saudi officials, calling it insensitive and disrespectful given the timing. He expressed disappointment in the PGA's shift in stance regarding Saudi Arabia's alleged involvement in 9-11, citing financial interests as a driving factor.

Turning to political leaders, Eagleson lamented the lack of public acknowledgment and action from candidates like Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden. He recounted a poignant moment at the 9-11 memorial where a widow implored these leaders to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for its role in the attacks.

While acknowledging Trump's recent meeting with some family members, Eagleson stressed the importance of tangible steps towards justice. He urged Vice President Harris to seize the opportunity to support the families affected by 9-11.

In conclusion, Eagleson's impassioned plea for closure and accountability resonates with the ongoing struggle of 9-11 families to find solace and justice in the aftermath of the tragedy.
