A Georgia woman is charged with neglecting her 84-year-old mother, whose severe condition shocked authorities during a welfare check.
On December 30, deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Rollingwood Drive after concerns were raised about the elderly woman's well-being, WJBF reported.
At the residence, deputies reported a strong odor of bodily fluids and discovered the bedridden patient in dire need of medical attention.
Tyrossale Peak, the woman's caregiver, told deputies her mother had lost significant weight but insisted she was "well" and under hospice care. Peak admitted her mother had not been seen by a medical professional since June.
EMS personnel were called to the scene and determined her skin had fused to the mattress due to untreated bedsores. Part of the mattress had to be cut to safely remove the woman.
Peak was arrested and charged with Neglect to a Disabled Adult. Authorities have not released further information on the victim's condition.
