Men over 40 often have a different relationship with household chores than they did at 25. A Saturday spent fixing something can still feel satisfying, but plenty of jobs no longer justify sacrificing an entire weekend, especially when the project starts with a $30 part and somehow ends with three trips to the hardware store.
That shift does not necessarily mean giving up on DIY skills. It often means getting more selective about where those skills belong. Some jobs require specialized equipment, create a giant mess, or turn a two-hour project into an all-day affair. Others simply are not worth doing personally when someone else can finish them while the homeowner gets on with life.
