If you’re new to the game and looking for advice, these tips can help you find more success with your BMX:

Pay Attention To The Level Intros

When you first jump into a region, the game will take you on a free cam journey through the level. This is an excellent opportunity to familiarize yourself with the level before you play it. While the game does show you a shot of the area where challenges take place, if you aren’t familiar with the level, this can still leave you struggling to find them.

While a single fly-through won’t instantly map the entire level in your brain, it can help you come to grips with the layout more quickly.

Don’t Be Afraid To Abandon A Challenge

One of the best compliments you can give to Streetdog BMX is that the experience of trying to beat a tough challenge is very similar to the experience of trying to nail a trick or sequence in real life. The frustration when you get so close feels real, as does the explosive excitement of finally nailing it cleanly.

That doesn’t mean that you have to keep banging your head against a wall, however. If you have reached a point where you don’t seem to be making any progress toward at least getting more consistently close with a challenge, then it may be time to abandon it. Sometimes all you need is to just take a short break to try some other challenges to reset yourself before coming back later to close out the three stars.

Challenge Tricks And Sequences Are Literal

A critical thing to understand anytime you are facing a challenge with a prescribed sequence, meaning one which shows up as move, plus sign, move, is that you need to stick to that exact call. Overachieving will be punished. An intermediary move will be punished.

This means that if you have a 180 into a fakie move, you need to have that move ready to go as soon as your wheels or pegs are touching down, as allowing your wheel to land without a move ready to go will result in a brief period of fakie riding, killing your chain.

Go for a 720 when it calls for a 360, and you will fail. Go for two individual barspins when it calls for a double barspin? That’s a failure.

And the one that is most important to pay attention to, as there is nothing worse than losing a winning run after you’ve completed it, is that if you are chaining moves, you need to bail out of the trick when completed before accidentally doing anything else.

Even if, for example, you hit four moves in the right order, if it ends in a manual and you hit your control stick and revert into a fakie manual, you will not get credit even though you completed the sequence as requested. Stick to the demands and nothing more.

Learn To Keep Your Fingers Quiet

Following up on the importance of being precise with the moves you pull off, it’s critical to ensure that you’re being careful and precise with your fingers. Fast, jittery reactions are the death of a good run as they quickly turn a simple move into a spinning one or add in an extra trick you hadn’t planned.

Even on challenges where exact move orders are not essential, it’s important to be mindful of not over-tricking, as an accidental Euro or No Hander can see your character crashing out and losing you the points for the combo you’re rocking. If you find that you keep overdoing things, take a step back and focus on slowing down and building precision in your moves, then ramping the intensity up from there.

Practice Challenging Chains In Parts

Some of the most difficult challenges in the game revolve around chaining several moves together, either at your leisure or on a particular piece of scenery. The longer the chains get, the easier it is to find yourself a bit overwhelmed by the task you’re being asked to complete.

If you find yourself struggling with a chain-based challenge, take some time to work on the individual components separately. As you get more comfortable hitting each move, you can then go back to starting to string them together, eventually building your combo out to the point that it fulfills the challenge brief and earns you your star.

Faster Isn’t Always Better If You Can’t Land Tricks

Often in Streetdog BMX, a challenge will require you to land a chain of moves that includes hitting an aerial maneuver across a gap or while making a jump. When playing, I found that my first instinct to repeatedly find that I didn’t have enough time to land the aerials was to try to hit the entry harder and faster.

In some situations, this can certainly prove useful. If your move involves a launch off a ramp, then the faster you travel up the ramp, the more upward trajectory you have. If, however, it’s a flatland jump, it may actually prove counterproductive.

In one session challenge that required grinding two boxes with a trick in the air between them, the key to success was actually slowing down. This provided my rider with enough time on the first box to fully load up the jump, generating enough height to hit the aerial trick cleanly.

Don’t Set Your Grinds Early

Another tripping point that took learning to nail down was the importance of patience with grinds when attempting additional moves and rotations prior. In order to make grinding work in the game, it comes with a bit of snap logic, dragging your BMX into position to hit the grind.

If you’re trying to hit a move like a 180 into a fakie grind, then being early with the grind button will cause your rider to lock on before rotating enough to switch directions, instead landing with the wrong facing for the move you’re trying to hit.

Check Your Surroundings If A Challenge Has You Confounded

Sometimes the answer to a problem is simply to do a little bit of exploring. While some challenges mandate you to complete them in a specific location or off a specific piece of scenery, many others can be completed anywhere in the level, so get exploring. Move around the level with your mind on your goal and scout until you find a spot that looks just right for your needs.
