8 potential replacements for injured Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay

Eagles’ All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay will miss Monday night’s matchup against the Seahawks, and could be out until the playoff after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday.

A Philadelphia defense that’s already among the NFL’s worst will need to adjust on the fly with a the Seahawks employing a dynamic trio of pass catchers that includes, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

With the Eagles scheduled to face the Giants twice and Seahawks in contest after Monday night, we’re looking at 8 potential replacements on the roster that can fill Slay’s shoes.

The second-year undrafted cornerback out of Alabama is the Eagles’ top backup behind Darius Slay and James Bradberry, but he’s developed into a special teams standout over the past six weeks.

After playing 214 defensive snaps in the first six games of the season, Jobe has played a total of five defensive snaps in the last six games.

On special teams, Jobe has played the third-most snaps on the team (212) behind just recently-released Christian Elliss (238) and rookie Kelee Ringo (225).

Jobe is tied for the team lead in special teams tackles with five.

Ringo has earned more snaps and, in the loss to Dallas, played a career-high 22 after playing just one all year.

Ringo is a big, physical cornerback who’s the closest physical comparison to DK Metcalf.

Eli Ricks

Ricks played 18 snaps in the loss to Dallas and he’s the one rookie cornerback who has seen snaps in big-time situations.

The slot cornerback can’t physically matchup with Metcalf on the outside, and may not have the speed to deal with Tyler Locktt.

Sydney Brown

Brown had played 173 defensive snaps before the Sunday night loss to Dallas and ended up playing a career-high 58 defensive snaps.

He can’t replace Slay on the outside, but his aggressiveness in the slot could keep Eli Ricks on the outside, where he’s more comfortable.

The slot cornerback is on the practice squad, but has experience playing in the crunch.
