Best paper shredders for home use, reviewed by a tech expert

Even paper clips and staples are no match for the more-powerful contenders in my line-up - (Stuart Pritchard/The Independent)

Face it, we all have paperwork that we need to destroy. Whether it’s because you’ve made some incriminating “mistakes” in political office, you need to rustle up some packing material to send a parcel via a low-cost courier service, or it’s just taking up space and you need to ensure you can recycle-bin it securely, the best way to rid yourself of problem paper is, of course, by buying yourself one of the UK’s best paper shredders. Or fire; but that can bring its own problems.

Available in three distinct and largely self-explanatory flavours, Strip Cut (strips), Cross Cut (confetti), and Micro Cut (basically granules), each type comes offering security on one of seven levels, from P-1 and P-2 for innocuous day-to-day waste and general non-sensitive stuff, respectively, to P-3 and P-4 for personal correspondence and bank statements etc, respectively, all the way up to P-6 and P-7 for legal documents and government/military/classified bumf, also respectively.
