Friendship Day is being observed on August 6 this year to pay tributes to one of the most beautiful human bonding that has existed ever. The day cherishes the unity between two friends or a group of friends and honors the trust, belief and understanding between them. On friendship day, people engage in merry making and thank their friends for being such an important part of their life. The eternal bond of trust is celebrated with dinner parties, luncheons and by exchanging gifts.
There is a reason why friendship day is observed on the first Sunday of every August. As per reports, in 1930, Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, proposed the idea of starting a Friendship Day on August 2. Though this celebration was in practice for several years, in the United States, it lost its popularity and significance as people misunderstood it to be a marketing gimmick to sell greeting cards. However, many Asian nations continued to celebrate it on the same day. The first Friendship Day was celebrated in the year 1958. Over the years people have celebrated this unique day with lots of joy and happiness.
