Millions of people are set to receive a winter fuel payment in the coming months to help with soaring energy costs. Rising costs of energy, food and general inflation have left households in the UK struggling to afford their bills and the Bank of England has warned we face a two-year long recession - the longest in more than a century.
With the colder months now upon us, many have been left wondering how they will afford their gas and electric bills during the winter, with energy costs 95% higher than they were this time last year despite the UK government's price guarantee capping the typical bill at £2,500 a year. It has led the UK government to roll out a number of support payments for those hardest hit, including £324 for those on means-tested benefits this month and £150 for those on disability benefits.
There are a number of payments for those struggling with their energy bills, including the winter fuel payment which has been increased this year to help cover higher costs. If you qualify for a winter fuel payment you will get an extra £300 to help with bills, a measure announced by then-chancellor Rishi Sunak earlier this year.
