6 signs of testicular cancer every man should watch out for

Red flags and signs of testicular cancer

Although testicular cancer is a very uncommon type of cancer, it primarily affects young men in the 15–40 age bracket, with a bimodal age distribution that peaks in the 10–30 age range and the 50+ age group. Even while older men are less likely to experience it, it is crucial that people of all ages are aware of the symptoms.

First sign of testicular cancer

A painless growth of one or both testes is the primary indicator of testicular cancer. Never disregard this symptom, especially if it continues for an extended period of time. A possible problem may also be indicated by variations in the testes' size and form, a sensation of heaviness in the scrotum, or seeing that one testis is larger than the other. In some cases, individuals may experience recurrent testicular infections or persistent testicular enlargement despite antibiotic therapy, which should prompt further investigation.

More signs of testicular cancer to watch out for

Dr. Shalabh Aggarwal – Consultant – Urology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram says, “Other symptoms could appear as the condition worsens and possibly spreads outside the testes. Advanced stages of the disease may be indicated by stomach pain, the presence of an abdominal lump, or a feeling of weight in the belly. There may also be swelling in the lower limbs, especially the legs. Anorexia, unexplained weight loss, and anorexia are examples of late-stage symptoms.”

Self examination may help

Given the age range at which testicular cancer occurs, young men—especially those under 30—should be made aware of the significance of performing routine self-examinations of their testicles. This requires being familiar with the typical dimensions, form, and consistency of the testes and periodically examining them for unusual characteristics or alterations. Sons should be taught how to conduct self-examinations by their parents, and they should be made aware of the significance of getting medical help if they observe any worrying changes.

Diagnosis of testicular cancer

Seeking medical attention on a regular basis is essential, particularly for those in high-risk age groups. A doctor should be consulted immediately for any persistent or mysterious symptoms in order to rule out any dangerous underlying illnesses, such as testicular cancer.

Ultimately, early detection and effective treatment of testicular cancer depend on people being aware of the symptoms and indicators of the disease, especially in young men. Proactive self-examination and seeking medical assistance for any troubling symptoms can greatly increase an individual's chances of receiving a good diagnosis early on.
