1. It Cuts Sick Days, and There Is a Number to Prove It
A 2016 randomized controlled trial published in PLOS ONE followed 3,018 adults in the Netherlands who switched to cold showers for 30, 60, or 90 seconds daily. The group that finished the cold cycle reported 29% fewer sick days compared to the warm-shower control group. The cold exposure did not reduce the incidence of illness, people still caught infections, but it shortened duration and reduced the number of days people called in unwell. Immunity, in this reading, is less about blocking every pathogen and more about recovering faster. In Indian cities where office air conditioning runs cold and commutes run long, that distinction matters.
