6 midfielders Rangers could target as transfer search for Ianis Hagi cover gets underway

Gio van Bronckhorst has admitted Rangers are still on the lookout for signings.

The Dutchman looked to have a settled squad as the January window draws to a close with key men Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos likely to remain at Ibrox.

But an injury to Ianis Hagi that will keep the Romanian out until the end of the season means Van Bronckhorst and sporting director Ross Wilson are in the market again.

The playmaker has been a mainstay of the starting XI under Van Bronckhorst who clearly sees him as a key part of his plans.

But who could be coming in to Ibrox to provide a solution as the clock ticks down until the end of the window? Record Sport takes a look.

Olimpiu Morutan

Morutan has struggled for regular game-time at Galatasaray since his move in the summer.

The Romania cap knows current Ibrox playmaker Hagi from the international scene and could come in as a temporary replacement for the Ibrox star.

Reports in Turkey had suggested a the Premiership champions have previously explored a six-month loan switch for the star man.

Zinedine Ferhat

The Algerian has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic, but could Rangers swoop in for the playmaker?

The Nimes star is out of contract in the summer and has not trained with the club since the start of the month as he attempts to force a transfer away from Ligue 2.

Xavi Simons

The Dutchman's Paris Saint-Germain future remains up in the air with Rangers among the clubs credited with an interest in the wonderkid.

The 18-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is reportedly unhappy with his game time at the Ligue 1 leaders.

It has been claimed that he will sign a new deal at the Parc des Princes if he is allowed a loan exit this month, could Rangers provide the option that sparks a domino effect?

Lewis Ferguson

The combative Aberdeen midfielder has impressed at Pittodrie, but Dave Cormack looks to have a high valuation of Ferguson.

Just last summer Watford had a £1.2m bid turfed out which could see a large asking price put on his head if Rangers look to make their move.

If an offer does come in, dad Derek and uncle Barry will surely be trying to sell him on following in their footsteps in Govan.

Ahmed Kendouci

Kendouci comes highly-rated in Africa and has three goals in 12 games this season for ES Setif.

Reports in the Algerian internationals' homeland suggest that both Rangers and Celtic have shown an interest in the playmaker this month.

Following Hagi's injury, it may see Ross WIlson take a punt on the 22-year-old before the end of the window.

Kristian Hlynsson

Could assistant manager Dave Vos call in favour from Ajax?

Before he arrived as part of Gio van Bronckhorst 's coaching team he left behind his role at the prestigious academy set-up within the Dutch giants, having previously coached at Jong Ajax.

Playmaker Hlynsson has been an ever-present for the Ajax B-team and could be given a chance to experience first-team football under a familiar face in Glasgow.

The 18-year-old has been capped for Iceland at youth level, and has netted five times this season in youth competitions.
