6 facts about new 49ers starting QB Brock Purdy, who was Mr. Irrelevant 2022

The San Francisco 49ers, yet again, have a new starting quarterback.

Trey Lance got injured earlier in the year. Now, Jimmy Garropolo is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot. The Niners signed the ageless Josh Johnson off the Denver Broncos practice squad, and let’s remember he’s played for nearly half the NFL franchises.

So, it’s rookie Brock Purdy who will take the reins for a Niners team with serious postseason hopes given its stout defense and all the weapons surrounding him.

Maybe you don’t know anything about Purdy, so here are a few fun facts about him:

1
Yup, he was "Mr. Irrelevant" at the 2022 NFL Draft

That’s the title bestowed upon the last pick in the NFL Draft every year, and he was selected out of Iowa State with the 262nd pick by the Niners back in April. He might end up being the most important Mr. Irrelevant ever.

2
He played at Iowa State

He was a two-time First Team All-Big 12 choice, started 46 games for the Cyclones and threw 81 touchdowns while rushing for 19 more.

3
Sunday wasn't the first time he played this season

He played in the Niners’ win over the Cardinals a few weeks ago and did this, which people laughed at:

He also went 4-of-9 for 66 yards and an interception against the Chiefs in October.

4
Fred Warner knows that Purdy is good

5
He was good in high school

He was named the Gatorade Arizona boys football player of the year in 2017 out of Perry High School.
