The seventh week of the college football season is here and it features four matchups between Top 25 teams, including a Top 10 showdown between Oregon and Washington. Let’s take a look at six prospects for Green Bay Packers fans to watch this week.
Evan Williams, S, Oregon (Oregon at Washington, 2:30 p.m. ABC)
It’s going to be a track meet in Seattle this afternoon. This game features two quarterbacks that are in the Heisman running and three Top 10 wide receivers. The Washington aerial attack will be a great test for Oregon safety, Evan Williams. The Fresno State transfer is a hybrid safety, capable of playing in the slot. During his first season in Eugene, Williams has recorded 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks (in four games). Williams has outstanding field quickness and range to make plays all over the field.
James Williams, S, Miami (Miami at UNC, 6:30 p.m. NBC/Peacock)
There are not a lot of safeties built like James Williams. The Miami safety checks in at 6-5, 215 pounds. Williams is at his best playing downhill, showcasing a quick trigger. In five games this season, Williams has recorded 18 tackles, one interception, and three pass deflections. Williams will be tested by Drake Maye and UNC’s passing attack.
Calen Bullock, S, USC (USC at Notre Dame, 6:30 p.m. NCB/Peacock)
Let’s make it a third safety to watch for Packers fans. USC’s Calen Bullock has outstanding ball skills. A high school wide receiver, Bullock has eight career interceptions and 13 pass deflections. He has disciplined eyes and shows good range. Bullock needs to clean up his tackling, which has looked improved this season.
Ray Davis, RB, Kentucky (Missouri at Kentucky, 6:30 p.m. SEC Network)
Ray Davis has burst onto the season this season for the Wildcats. After rushing for 1,000 yards last season at Vanderbilt, Davis has rushed for 653 yards and eight touchdowns through his first six games at Kentucky. Davis has also added four receiving touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, Davis has picked up 404 yards after contact and forced 28 missed tackles.
Layden Robinson, G, Texas A&M (Texas A&M at Tennessee, 2:30 p.m. CBS)
The Packers may be looking for upgrades along the offensive line this season if their struggles running the ball continue. Enter Layden Robinson. The Texas A&M guard has started 28 games at right guard and has given up zero sacks through six games this season.
Chris Walker, OT, Montana (Montana at Idaho, 9:30 p.m. ESPN2)
Chris Walker started his collegiate career at Nebraska. He was listed as an offensive lineman during his first year on campus, before moving over to the defensive side of the ball. After five years at Nebraska, Walker transferred to Montana last season and made the move back to the offensive side of the ball where he has started 19 straight games at left tackle for the Griz.
Mini Mock Draft
The Packers haven’t selected an offensive lineman in the first round since they drafted Derek Sherrod with the 32nd overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. That drought would likely end if the Packers are on the clock and Joe Alt is on the board.
Alt, a former tight end is a mountain of a man (6-8). He has great movement skills and outstanding lateral movements in pass protection. In six games this season, Alt has given up one sack and just three pressures.
