A 56-year-old man has died following a fatal collision in Ystrad Mynach on Tuesday. Gwent Police said that they received a report of a road traffic collision on the A472 near Tredomen at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, June 6.
The police force said officers attended the scene, alongside personnel from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service. The collision involved a white Ford Transit van.
The driver, a 56-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The police force confirmed that he can be named as Darren Medd and that his next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.

In a statement released on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the police force said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A472, near Tredomen at around 2.20pm on Tuesday 6 June. Officers attended, along with personnel from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service, and the collision involved a van– a white Ford Transit.
"The driver, a 56-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He can be named as Darren Medd; his next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers."
Gwent Police are now appealing for any motorists who were travelling on the A472 near Tredomen in Ystrad Mynach between 2.10pm and 2.20pm on Tuesday, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, to get in contact with them. In order to do this, the police force has asked witness to either call 101 - quoting the log reference 2300185054, or alternatively to send them a direct message on social media.
