Dev Anand and Hema Malini's Joshila was a popular film back in the early 70s. Even though the film's memory may have faded in the subsequent years, the film's legacy remains undeniable, 50 years after its release. Apart from having Dev Anand, Hema Malini and Raakhee in the cast, the film was also directed by Yash Chopra. Film expert Dilip Thakur spoke to ETimes about the film's release back in 1973 and how it was compared to Dev-Hema's much more iconic Johny Mera Naam from a few years ago.
Revealing the perceptions that were prevalent at the time of the release Dilip Thakur says, "When Joshila had released, there was a big hangover of Johny Mera Naam, which had been a huge hit and was still going strong. Gulshan Rai had turned producer with Johny Mera Naam under his Trimurti Films banner. After Johny Mera Naam, director Vijay Anand (Dev Anand's brother) had made Tere Mere Sapne, which did not work. Vijay Anand and Gulshan Rai were coming together for Joshila, but they had a conflict over money which was widely written about."
