History was made at St James' Park today as Newcastle United Women's played at the ground for the first time.
The original 2pm kick off was delayed by 15 minutes to cope with the demand and queues as more than 22,000 fans turned up to see the lasses take on Alnwick Town Ladies. Supporters waved black and white fans with pride and a huge sign reading 'Howay the lasses' was also spotted in the crowd.
Co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi also watched from the stands along with Toon boss Eddie Howe. Ghodoussi's reaction on Twitter simply read: "Incredible turnout".
