On Tuesday night, the New York Police Department arrested 50 anti-Israel protesters at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). This arrest marked the clearing of the last standing encampment in New York City.
The incident began when NYPD responded to a demonstration at Union Square Park around 6:40 p.m. Protesters then proceeded to march to various locations in the Manhattan South area.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, multiple individuals were taken into custody at West 27th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue. A total of 50 people were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
The NYPD emphasized that the encampment would not have been dismantled without the request or approval of FIT. Throughout the night, protesters chanted slogans such as 'FIT go to hell' and directed derogatory remarks towards law enforcement officers.
Notably, this incident is part of a larger trend, with over 2,400 individuals having been arrested at 50 anti-Israel protests on college campuses across the United States.
