5 recipes Kamala Harris swears by

Kamala Harris' love for cooking is no secret and the US President hopeful has turned to cooking during fun times as well as challenging times. Be it cooking dosa with Mindy Kaling, or cooking a Thanksgiving feast for her family, Harris's recipes have turned out to be quite a hit on the internet.

Here are a few of them for you to try:

1. Cornbread Dressing

Ingredients

2-8oz packs of cornbread mix

1 lb spicy pork sausage

2 chopped onion

2 apples, cored and chopped

4 celery stalks, diced

3/4 cup of chicken broth

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

2 tsp sage

1/2 tsp thyme

1/2 tsp rosemary

salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Bake your cornbread as per package instructions. Once it's cooled, crumble it.

Take the sausage and crumble it. Brown it in a little oil. After it's cooked, remove it from the pan and set it aside.

Saute the veggies and apples in the remaining oil in the same pan.

Mix that with the sausage, cornbread crumbs, melted butter, herbs, and chicken broth.

Put the mixture in a baking dish and bake at 375 degree for about 40 minutes

2. Raisin Bran in almond milk

Kamala Harris has often talked about her favourite breakfast - Raisin Bran in almond milk. She likes to make this simple recipe for her while looking at the schedule for the day. Harris usually gets the Raisin Bran from the neighborhood grocery store and does not add much sugar to it.

3. Bacon fried apples

Ingredients

Bacon

Apples

Bourbon

Method

Chop the bacon into small pieces and fry till crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan but leave the fat.

Chop unpeeled apples and put them into the hot bacon fat and cook them until tender, but not mushy. You can sprinkle a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon for added flavor.

To balance the sweetness of the apples, Harris adds a splash of bourbon. But you can skip this step or substitute with a bit of water or apple cider for a non-alcoholic option.

Once done, the mixture can be served over pancakes with butter and maple syrup.

4. Tuna Melt

Drain the tuna and flake it with a fork in a medium bowl. Dice the celery and red onion properly, then mix them into the tuna. Stir in a few dollops of mayonnaise, a spoonful of Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice, and season with salt and pepper.

Spread the tuna salad on one slice of whole wheat bread, and layer cheddar cheese on the other slice. Heat a skillet over medium-high, melt butter, and grill the sandwich on both sides until the bread is golden and the cheese melts. Cut in half and serve.

5. Cheese Puffs

Ingredients:

1 ¼ c nonfat milk

10 T unsalted butter

1 T Kosher salt, plus additional for topping

1 c all purpose flour

5 large eggs, plus additional for topping

¾ c good Gruyere or Comté cheese, plus additional for topping, grated

1 t freshly ground black pepper

1 T fresh thyme, off the stem, or 1 t dried thyme

Method

Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a saucepan, heat the nonfat milk, butter, and 1 tablespoon of Kosher salt until it comes to a full boil, stirring to prevent the milk from scalding. Once boiling, add the flour all at once and stir vigorously until smooth. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to 145°F. Gradually beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the thyme, black pepper, and ¾ cup of grated Gruyère or Comté cheese.

Spoon the dough into 8 mounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment or a Silpat, shaping them into hemispheres. Alternatively, pipe the dough using a pastry bag. Brush the tops with beaten egg and a pinch of salt, then sprinkle with extra cheese. Bake for 35-45 minutes, until puffed and golden. Serve warm or at room temperature. To prevent deflation, prick the tops with a toothpick if you're not serving immediately.
