Swathes of Nottinghamshire folk will be planning staycations and day trips in the summer amid the cost-of-living crisis. Some of these holidaymakers will be looking east, to the Lincolnshire coast, which provides the nearest access to the seaside and has a number of lovely locations to visit.
For pet-owners, taking your dog for a walk down on the sand can be a delight, so long as the heat is not too intense. However, dogs are not always permitted at beaches, with pooches completely banned from Cleethorpes Beach from April to the end of September.
Here is a list of the places a few hours away where you and your canine companion can make the most of the sun.

Huttoft aka Moggs Eye
Huttoft Beach, also known locally as Moggs Eye, is a quiet, rural beach backed by grassy sand dunes. As well as plenty of room for beach games, the beach is used by swimmers, surfers, sea anglers and bird watchers.
It is also quite popular with walkers, with a variety of good walks in the area. There are currently no restrictions on dog walking on the beach either unlike other busy beaches in coastal resorts. It is one of the closest dog-friendly beaches to Mablethorpe.
Humberston Fitties
Humberston Fitties is a wide sandy beach at the mouth of the Humber Estuary, near Cleethorpes - where as previously mentioned dogs are not allowed during the summer months. The beach is dog friendly, with one dogwalker reviewing it as a "doggy paradise".
There are also great views of the ships and boats leaving port, combined with the sand dunes known as the Humberston Fitties. This area doubles as a conservation area and collection of around 300 vintage holiday chalets.
Theddlethorpe Beach
Theddlethorpe Beach is definitely one for nature lovers, with an superb unspoilt landscape of salt marshland and sands. Dog walkers are also able to bring along their pets all year round.
Saltfleetby Theddlethorpe Dunes are designated a National Nature Reserve and there are a range of habitats here; tidal sand and mudflats, salt and freshwater marshes and sand dunes. The marshes behind the beach are one of only a few location in the UK where the natterjack toad can be found.
Ingoldmells South
This picturesque beach near the resort town of the same name also allows dogs to visit. Pooches are welcome on the sand all year round.
Ingoldmells itself is home to Fantasy Island and the beach has blue flag status - a mark of quality for beaches.
Chapel St Leonards
This popular swimmers beach is ideal to take your dog this summer. With both sand and shingles, it is also ideal for walkers as the beach stretches for many miles.
Dogs are allowed on the sand, however between September 1 and 30 they are banned from the 'central area' of the beach. If you are visiting with your dog between these dates, there is no reason to worry as the rest of the area will be open to your pet.
