Too much sitting is silently killing you by raising your risk of heart disease and cancer. Prolonged hours of staying glued to your chair have several health risks that can shorten your life span as well as diminish the quality of your life. People who sit for 8-10 hours daily, without any physical activity have a risk of dying similar to that posed by obesity and smoking, as per studies. A study of older women in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that sitting for long periods can increase the odds of an untimely death.
Even regular exercise cannot prevent from shortening their lifespan if most of their daily hours are sedentary ones. Some movement, stretching, walking, taking breaks, and eating a healthy diet can go a long way in reversing ill effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
