Love it or hate it, your laundry won't do itself. But what if there were products that could help actually help to make the process easier, or make your laundry smell better?
Here on the Solved team at Homes & Gardens, we spend our time interviewing laundry experts, and testing accessories in our our laundry rooms, so we know a thing or two about where to save and splurge.
These are the best indoor accessories we've tried and recommend time and time again, to help making doing laundry a breeze.
5 indoor laundry accessories we love
1. Joseph Joseph Eclipse 3-Tier Adjustable Laundry Drying Rack
If there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's having a cumbersome and unsightly clothes airer in the house.
Between constantly having to move it out of the way when guests come over, and feeling like it's never actually put away for more than a day or two before I need it again in my tiny home, I usually find them an annoyance, but, as someone without one of the best clothes dryers, it's a necessity.
Enter: the discreet Joseph Joseph Eclipse indoor clothes airer I tried (available at Amazon and Joseph Joseph), which has changed up my laundry routine for the better. Dirty laundry on show? A thing of the past. Hallways blocked by drying clothes? Forget it – this is ideal for drying clothes in a small space, and cleverly conceals a full load of washing with a sleek and stylish ecru screen without making freshly washed clothes smell damp.
All prices were correct at the time of publication.
Easy assembly
I was able to assemble this on my own in next to no time, and I'm certainly not DIY inclined. It has a drying capacity of 45 feet, and the ingenious ability to fold completely flat, ideal for storing in even the smallest of spaces.
2. Essential oils
There are many unusual ways to clean with essential oils at home, and Punteha van Terheyden, head of Solved, who has ditched dryer sheets for this natural essential oil dryer hack, says they're a laundry accessory you never knew you needed.
Punteha says, 'Add a few drops on a damp clean cloth in the dryer, and your laundry comes out smelling so divine.' She usually opts for the MAJESTIC PURE Geranium Essential Oil available at Amazon, which is 100% pure, but you can customize the scent to keep laundry smelling nice for longer, depending on what you prefer.
For another disposable dryer sheet replacement, I also think we all should be using dryer balls, which won't make your laundry smell great like essential oils, but will speed up drying times and fluff up fabrics, helping you to save money at home.
You can add a few drops of essential oil to your dryer ball, but make sure to dampen it first to avoid a fire risk.
Premium grade
I love the thought of using relaxing lavender essential oil when drying best bed sheets and pillowcases, ideal for making a bedroom smell good for sleep.
Reusable
Using dryer balls is one of the best sustainable household swaps you can make, replacing fabric softener and helping to cut energy bills.
Cold pressed
This essential oil is unfiltered and undiluted, without fillers, alcohol or additives, with a premium glass dropper.
3. Joseph Joseph Petal 22-Piece Drying Hanger
Is there anything more annoying than your freshly washed pants and socks constantly falling off rails and hangers when drying?
Well, Punteha recently tried the Joseph Joseph Petal 22-Piece Drying Hanger, and described it as an 'unexpected laundry hero.'
She says, 'I love this as it saves you two thirds of the space you'd usually use for socks and underwear and other little laundry bits and bobs, and stops them falling off constantly. When the items are dry, either pull them off or use the hanger itself to take them to the room they'll be put away in.'
And, at only $10 it's hard to see what's not to love, with an easy-load design and push-grips for secure hanging – no pegs required. When it's not in use, simply fold the hanger heads flat and slide into a drawer or the gap between your washer and the counter.
Folds flat for compact storage
With two heavy-duty aluminium hooks, this handy dryer can be hung securely both indoors and outside, with capacity to hold 22 separate laundry items.
4. A heated airer
While they may seem like a hefty investment, Chiana Dickson, content editor on Solved, tried a heated airer and loves the way it helps her to save money on laundry, gets her clothes of the radiators, and helps her to be more sustainable at home.
You can also use this simple tip to make a heated airer even more efficient, but just beware of any heated airer mistakes which may ruin your flooring and even cause your energy bills to rise when using one.
Foldable
This electric heated drying rack allows faster drying time, with 20 drying rods, and a sturdy and heavy-duty aluminium frame.
H&G recommends
H&G contributing writer Jess Bacon recently tried this compact $70 heated airer, and loved how portable, quiet and quick it is to use.
Extendable and adjustable
If you're not ready to invest yet, this drying rack attaches to your radiator for quick drying without the commitment.
