The 49ers will not see Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. Smith has been ruled out with a groin injury after he popped up on the injury report Friday as questionable.
Starting in his stead will be QB Drew Lock, who was acquired in the deal that sent QB Russell Wilson to the Broncos.
Smith beat out Lock in a QB competition last training camp, and Lock never saw the field during the 2022 season. This season he’s played a couple short stints while Smith was hurt.
In two appearances Lock completed 4-of-12 throws for 66 yards and one interception.
Sunday marks his first start since the final week of the 2021 season. He’s 8-13 in his career as a starter. He went 0-3 in 2021, with his last win coming in Week 13 of the 2020 campaign when his Broncos beat the Panthers 32-27.
