The San Francisco 49ers’ Week 5 injury report is crowded, as expected.
Linebacker Fred Warner and tight end George Kittle both returned to practice Friday and made enough progress from their injuries to be listed as questionable on the official injury report.
Here’s what the report looks like for Week 5:
Out
DL Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf)
The 49ers’ already-thin defensive front will miss Gross-Matos. He’s a versatile player who can play on the interior or outside. Gross-Matos played a season-high 35 snaps against the Patriots. Flannigan-Fowles absence means the 49ers will have a different Sam linebacker. Dee Winters figures to be the next man up for that job.
Doubtful
WR Chris Conley (oblique)
Conley’s offensive workload has fluctuated a lot this year, but he’s been a regular special teams contributor. WR Ronnie Bell may be up to replace Conley.
Questionable
LB Fred Warner (ankle)
TE George Kittle (ribs)
WR Jacob Cowing (shoulder)
CB Isaac Yiadom (thigh)
DT Kalia Davis (knee)
Warner and Kittle are the big names here. If Cowing is out the 49ers will need someone to return punts, although he debuted on offense with four snaps against New England. Yiadom has been the starting nickel CB. It’s interesting that he’s questionable despite being listed as a non-participant in practice all week. His starting nickel job would likely go to rookie CB Renardo Green if Yiadom doesn’t suit up. Davis is still on IR, but the club could activate him for Sunday’s game after opening his 21-day practice window Sunday.
