The San Francisco 49ers saw their Super Bowl dreams cut short Sunday in Philadelphia, and also lost their star rookie quarterback to an elbow injury.
Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his throwing arm, and will have surgery to repair the injury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Purdy is expected to be back to full strength in six months, Rapoport Says.
A hit by Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick from an awkward angle knocked Purdy out of Sunday’s NFC title game early, and though he returned later in the game after fourth-string replacement Josh Johnson suffered a head injury, Purdy was relegated to mostly handoffs.
Hopefully, this injury doesn’t present any long-term ill effects for Purdy, who is coming off one of the most improbable and impressive rookie campaigns we’ve seen from a quarterback in years.
