Christian McCaffrey played a key role in the 49ers’ Week 14 blowout win of the Buccaneers. Quarterback Brock Purdy stole the headlines, but it’s hard to imagine Purdy having as much success as he did without the help of his star running back. McCaffrey’s efforts earned him the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award.
The 49ers as a team ran it 36 times for 209 yards against Tampa Bay. McCaffrey contributed 119 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. His 38-yard TD run early in the third quarter put the 49ers up 35-0 and helped put the game on ice early.
The FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week is an award voted on by fans, and McCaffrey’s win will provide a donation to a Historically Black College or University. Via FedEx:
By winning the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award, FedEx will make a $2,000 donation in McCaffrey’s name to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), which will be applied towards needs-based scholarships to deserving HBCU students.
McCaffrey will need another big game on the ground in Week 15 against Seattle and their No. 31-ranked rushing attack.
