The 49ers on Thursday continued a streak of three consecutive days of free agent signings. Tuesday they announced nine offseason additions, and then Wednesday announced another three signings. Thursday the list of signings was only two players long, but they featured two players who were not with the team last season.
The previous 13 signings were all players who finished the 2023 campaign on the 49ers’ practice squad. The two newest additions did not, but they weren’t under contract to close the season which means they’re allowed to sign with new clubs even though the new league year hasn’t begun.
Here’s a look at their two new signings, along with a full list of the early offseason acquisitions:
DL Earnest Brown IV
Brown was a fifth-round pick of the Rams in the 2021 draft and was initially a practice squad player for them. Across three seasons in Los Angeles he played in 12 games with three starts and posted 14 tackles.
DL Raymond Johnson III
Johnson also entered the league in 2021, but he signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent. During his three seasons Johnson has also been with the Bengals and Lions. He has four tackles and 1.0 sacks in 15 games.
