49ers injury updates heading into bye week

The 49ers on Sunday wrapped up their first half of the year with a Week 8 loss to the Bengals. Now they’ll head into the bye for a much-needed week off to rest a handful of players who were either banged up Sunday or before.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday jumped on a conference call and talked through the club’s injury updates:

This is a pretty big blow to the 49ers’ offensive line. Banks suffered a turf toe injury during the loss to the Bengals and he’s due to miss a few weeks. That means he’ll miss time after the bye week. It’s not clear whether he’ll go on injured reserve.

Greenlaw has dealt with a slew of injuries in 2023, and now has a shoulder sprain that will leave him day-to-day according to Shanahan. His timeline for return is unclear, but Shanahan indicated the week off will provide some necessary rest.

Williams didn’t even work out prior to Sunday’s game because his ankle hurt and the team didn’t want to push it. Shanahan said he’s hopeful a full week of rest will get Williams on track to return to practice with the team ahead of Week 10.

Brock Purdy

Purdy got out of Sunday’s game without any head injuries after being cleared of the league’s concussion protocol in just five days. He did appear to hit his head late in the game, but Shanahan said the QB didn’t report any concussion symptoms and was not evaluated for a head injury.
