The 49ers’ lone injury update after their 27-10 win over the Commanders was a big one.
Running back Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday’s game early in the second half and was seen on the sideline getting work done on his calf. San Francisco eventually listed him as questionable. He didn’t return to the game.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan after the 49ers’ win gave as much information as he could on McCaffrey’s “possible calf strain.”
“We think he’ll be alright,” Shanahan said. “I don’t know if he would’ve been able to go next week or not, but we’ll have to find out more tomorrow. But he was moving around alright on the sidelines, so hoping it’s not too bad, but we won’t know until tomorrow.”
The good news for San Francisco is they won’t need to make any major decisions on whether to push McCaffrey into action despite an injury. With the No. 1 seed in the NFC wrapped up, they can comfortably give McCaffrey the week off. Then they’ll have a first-round bye where can get some additional rest.
Shanahan should have additional information Monday when he speaks with reporters again.
