The 49ers had an early injury scare in their Week 2 win over the Rams when wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk went down with what appeared to be a left shoulder injury. He did return to the game and head coach Kyle Shanahan in his postgame press conference didn’t sound too worried about his star WR.
Aiyuk got landed on after a diving grab and grabbed at his left shoulder on the ground before walking to the blue medical tent for evaluation.
Buy 49ers TicketsHe came back for the 49ers’ next series, but his playing time throughout the contest was sporadic. Shanahan classified it as a shoulder injury, but didn’t sound too worried about any long-term issues.
“I wouldn’t think so,” Shanahan said when asked if Aiyuk’s injury was serious. “I mean I know he was hurting a little bit, but he was able to play through it. So, I think he’ll be alright.”
Aiyuk finished the game with three grabs for 43 yards on six targets. He was open on a deep throw that would’ve gone for a long touchdown, but quarterback Brock Purdy overthrew him.
The only other injury note from Shanahan after the game was cornerback Ambry Thomas missed time throughout the game with a knee injury. His replacement, Isaiah Oliver, came up with a handful of game-changing plays for the 49ers’ defense. There’s no word on whether Thomas will miss any time due to his knee injury.
Shanahan typically has additional information Monday in his conference call with reporters.
