The 49ers on Monday afternoon announced the elevation of defensive lineman T.Y. McGill from the practice squad to their active roster for Monday night’s game against the Cardinals.
McGill joined the 49ers practice squad in October when the team started having depth issues on the interior of their defensive line. Neither Javon Kinlaw nor Arik Armstead have returned to action, leaving Hassan Ridgeway and Kevin Givens as the two true defensive tackles on the roster. Kerry Hyder and Charles Omenihu can also kick inside on passing downs.
The 49ers have used McGill two other times this season. He played in Weeks 8 and 10, and notched 15 defensive snaps in those two games. He should see time again Monday in Mexico City where the elevation is more than 7,000 feet and rotations along the defensive front could be more frequent.
