49ers aiming to make improvements to Levi’s Stadium with eye toward hosting Super Bowl

The 49ers are trying to bring the Super Bowl back to Santa Clara. That process will involve improvements to Levi’s Stadium, which opened in 2014 and hosted Super Bowl L the following season.

Part of the process for making those improvements involves getting a $120 million loan from the NFL’s stadium fund. That loan will be voted on Tuesday per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.

Wagoner also noted that 49ers CEO Jed York told reporters the improvements would take place over the next three years with hopes of having them finished in time for the 2026 World Cup and Super Bowl LX, which will cap the 2025 season.

Specific improvements the team would make are unknown, but it’s unlikely a roof will be in play with the money the 49ers are aiming to borrow from the league.

An evaluation future Super Bowl sites is set to take place at league meetings in May, and York told reporters he’s very confident the 49ers will host a Super Bowl in the near future. The next two Super Bowls are already spoken for with Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas hosting Super Bowl LVIII and the Superdome in New Orleans getting Super Bowl LIX.
