On Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett went down with what looked like a nasty knee injury in the Steelers 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans. We will know more on Tuesday after more testing is done but early reports center on it being an MCL sprain.
Here are four things this injury could mean for the Steelers this season.
No Pickett until after the bye week
We don’t know the severity of the sprain but with the bye week just two weeks away, it is unlikely the team rushes him back. Even best-case scenario for his knee, Pickett might miss that first game back off the bye when the Steelers travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams.
It's Mitch Trubisky's team
Is Mitch Trubisky in the lineup an upgrade? Will he give the team a spark? Maybe so. Trubisky is coming in, playing with house money and has nothing to lose. Look for him to really cut loose against Baltimore next week.
Matt Canada gets a pass?
Will the “Fire Canada” chants be better or worse with Pickett out of the lineup? If the offense struggles this week, those who are calling for Canada’s job might have to pause given the team’s franchise quarterback isn’t playing.
Even more pressure on the defense
As bad as the Steelers offense has been, the defense has been a bigger disappointment given the amount of star power on that side of the football. Now the Steelers defense has to try to crank things up even more if the offense takes another step back.
