In-form Giorgos Giakoumakis did his talking on and off the park after his treble downed Dundee at Parkhead on Sunday.
The Greek striker settled a five-goal nerve-shredder as he completed his perfect hat-trick late on to seal the points against Mark McGhee’s men.
And it moved the Hoops three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership as they capitalised on Rangers’ slip up earlier in the day after they were held at Tannadice.
After sinking Dundee, Giakoumakis then put the boot into the champions saying: “We showed that we are a better team [against Rangers], that’s obvious.
"We showed that we work harder on the field. I think that we will win the championship."
It was fighting talk from the 27-year-old but it’s also the kind that could be pinned on the Ibrox dressing room wall to fire Rangers hope and has been known to backfire in the past.
Here, Record Sport looks back at some title taunts over the years to see how the league panned out.
Georgios Samaras - 2009
Giakoumakis isn’t the first Greek striker at Celtic to come out with a boast that they’re better than Rangers in ever department.
In fact, the current Hoops hitman’s words are so similar to his compatriot Georgios Samaras who came out with the same battlecry 14 years ago.
He said: "I think we have a better squad - and a better team than Rangers. We have better individual players, players who can change a game. We have Aiden McGeady, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Scott McDonald, Shunsuke Nakamura and Scott Brown - they can all change games.
"Rangers operate more like a team, it is difficult to find one player who can make a difference to them. Maybe Kris Boyd can score goals if he is given the ball in the box, but while Rangers have quality as a team, we have quality both as a team and from individuals.”
That was in the build up to a goalless draw at Ibrox as Celtic stayed ahead of Gers, but the Light Blues eventually overtook them.
Yet even going into a the final day of that 2008/09 season which would see Gers crowned champions he said: “If they are going to win it, I don't think they deserve it.
“We are a better team than them. If they are going to win it then fair play, but it's our mistakes (that let them) and I think we are a better team than Rangers.”
Martyn Waghorn - 2016
Victory over Celtic in the Scottish Cup while they were still in the second tier gave Rangers belief they could challenge the dominant Hoops the following season.
Former striker Martyn Waghorn was one of those who had real belief that they could claim the title.
Asked if the dramatics last four shoot-out win over Celtic at Hampden meant Gers could win the league next season, 28-goal Waghorn said: “Yes, of course.
“It’s Rangers Football Club we’re playing for and we want to be competing at the highest level. Last week showed we’re really not that far away.”
But he didn’t bank on the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as they finished almost 40 points behind an unbeaten Celtic.
Kris Commons - 2011
The former Hoops star cranked up the heat on the morning of an Old Firm game when he claimed Celtic were “a younger, fitter, healthier team” than their rivals.
Asked if he thought Celtic were simply better than their rivals, Commons added: “Yes. The mentality in the changing-room is that we're hungry, we want to win.
"Rangers will have these feelings too, that they're hungry, want to win and have good young players.
"But if we can beat them in front of our own fans that will give us a massive confidence boost.”
And they backed up his words that day with a 3-0 derby stroll at Parkhead to move eight points clear of Walter Smith’s men, albeit having played two games more.
But the Light Blues had the last laugh as Commons was left to eat his words with Gers claiming the title on the last day.
Kyle Lafferty - 2018
Rangers’ coveted 55th title was a long time coming with Mark Warburton admitting his heart sank when he walked out to a ‘Going for 55’ display in their first game back in the top flight.
But that fighting title talk proved far too premature as Brendan Rodgers took Celtic to another level.
However, the arrival of Steven Gerrard really saw a belief in the Ibrox camp that they could challenge the Hoops.
Lafferty knew what it took to win a title from his first Ibrox spell and when he returned was convinced Gerrard could end their long wait.
He boasted: "Everyone in the Rangers dressing room believes that we’ll get 55 and that this will be the year we’ll win the league.”
But it would take another three seasons before the trophy was finally back at Ibrox.
