The Green Bay Packers made a flurry of moves to open Day 1 of the legal tampering period on Monday. David Bakhtiari and Aaron Jones were released. Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney agreed to terms. Darnell Savage and Jon Runyan Jr. agreed to sign elsewhere. Tyler Davis re-signed.
The Packers are already one of the big spenders. Deals for Jacobs and McKinney will top $100 million in total value.
But are Brian Gutekunst and the Packers done spending? Done adding? We’ll see.
Here are four potential targets to watch on Day 2 on Tuesday:
S Jordan Fuller
Would the Packers spend again at safety? Fuller played for Jeff Hafley at Ohio State and is a big believer in the Packers new defensive coordinator. He’s still only 26 and a plus run defender. Teaming Xavier McKinney with Fuller at safety would transform the backend of the Packers secondary.
LB Jerome Baker
Baker played for Packers linebackers coach Anthony Campanile in Miami and could be a nice fit opposite Quay Walker or in the middle of Jeff Hafley’s new 4-3 defense. Baker can run and cover, and he even has the athleticism to add some pass-rushing juice from an off-ball linebacker spot. The position is a need after releasing De’Vondre Campbell. Baker is still only 27 and coming off two solid seasons with the Dolphins.
CB Keisean Nixon
An in-house free agent makes the list. The Packers liked Nixon’s growth in the slot as a first-year starter, and his value as a kickoff returner — back-to-back first-team All-Pro — is undeniable. Could the Packers do better at the nickel spot? Probably, but it’s not crazy to think Nixon could provide the improvement internally in his second season as the slot.
S Kamren Curl
Again, would the Packers spend on another safety? Curl is one of the best defensive players still available entering Day 2, and he’d be a terrific fit as a running mate with Xavier McKinney. Reliable and consistent, Curl is an Adrian Amos-like player with an impressive all-around skill set. With McKinney as a playmaker and Curl doing a little bit of everything at a high level, the Packers would have one of the NFL’s best young safety duos entering 2024.
