The Associated Press has made its annual All-Pro selections. This is the All-Pro award officially recognized by the NFL and the one that will be remembered in the history books.
Four members of the Kansas City Chiefs were named First-Team All-Pro selections, including one player among just two who were voted in unanimously. The Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers led the way with four players each on the AP’s first team selection.
Below is a quick recap of the players selected and some information on their All-Pro history:
QB Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes was one vote shy (49-of-50) from a unanimous AP First-Team All-Pro selection. These are the same voters that vote on the NFL’s MVP award and in years past this vote strongly indicates who will be named the NFL’s MVP for the season. Mahomes, for instance, was voted First-Team All-Pro in 2018 before winning his first career MVP award. This marks Mahomes’ third career All-Pro selection with his lone Second-Team selection coming in 2020.
TE Travis Kelce
Kelce was one of two players who was voted unanimously (50-of-50) for First-Team All-Pro alongside Vikings WR Justin Jefferson. This is the second time in his career that Kelce has been a unanimous First-Team All-Pro selection. This is his seventh career All-Pro selection and his fourth First-Team All-Pro selection.
DT Chris Jones
Like Patrick Mahomes, Jones was also one vote shy (49-of-50) of a unanimous First-Team All-Pro selection. This is Jones’ first First-Team All-Pro selection. He was named Second-Team All-Pro three times during his career (2018, 2020, 2021).
P Tommy Townsend
Tommy Townsend received over half of the votes (28-of-50), but the most votes among punters. This is his first All-Pro selection, First-Team or Second-Team.
