36 Merseyside pubs where you can get a pint for 6p with secret codeword today

For one day only certain pubs will be offering pints for just 6p to those using a secret word.

Pub retailer Green King is bringing the offer to 408 of its pubs today, on May 30, including 36 pubs in Merseyside. Pub-goers will be able to enjoy a pint of Greene King IPA for just 6p if they use the special codeword - 1952.

While it seems an odd amount to buy a pint for, there is method in the madness. It comes as it ties in with The Queen's upcoming Platinum Jubilee.

That was how much a pint cost when the Queen succeeded to the throne in 1952 and that is also where the password comes from. In order to be able to claim the 6p pint, pint-lovers will have to say the secret codeword - 1952. The offer is available at all Greene King pubs or a Flaming Grill site.

Andrew Gallagher, marketing director at Greene King Local Pubs, said: " The Platinum Jubilee is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and country, so we wanted to take our customers back to where it all began– 1952, a time when Vera Lynn ruled the charts and pints were only 6p.

"Some of our regulars may even remember watching the coronation back in 1952, although they may have been too young to enjoy a pint then. We can’t wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday, May 30, and look forwarding to celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in all our pubs across the bank holiday weekend."
