Every NFL team has its forgettable draft picks. The NFL draft is a crapshoot, and as history has shown, no amount of film and measurables can completely account for how a player will transition to the next level.
The 33rd Team put together its list of the worst draft mistake for every NFL team, and for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have former linebacker Huey Richardson. Richardson was the team’s first-round pick, No. 15 overall, in 1991.
Richardson appeared in five games during his rookie season and had two tackles as a miscast inside linebacker. When Bill Cowher took over as head coach the next season, he attempted to move Richardson to outside linebacker, but nothing worked. Richardson was traded to Washington and was released seven games later. The Jets signed him but released him after the season, and his NFL career was over.
