€30k raised in 24 hours for little Irish girl who needs life-saving medication

Tens of thousands has been raised for potential life-saving treatment for a little girl, 3, who has a severe form of epilepsy.

Little Clodagh was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, causing her to suffer multiple seizures every day, and only last month, was admitted to hospital after being resuscitated twice by her relatives at her home.

It was the second time in the space of a month that Clodagh has suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest.

"We are currently awaiting funding for a new treatment, Fenfluramine, which has been proven to have a significant impact in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures in children with Dravet Syndrome," Ann Marie Conboy, Clodagh's aunt wrote, on behalf of the child's parents, Matthew and Sinead, from Mullingar.

This is due to take several months, so the family are raising funds for this potentially life-saving treatment, as they await approval.

Fenfluramine treatment runs up a medical bill of approximately €10,000 per month.

The family were aiming to raise €30,000 to treat Clodagh for three months over the summer in the hope that the treatment will be funded by the HSE from October of this year.

In less than 24 hours, close to 180 donations have all rallied together, with €30,740 raised for little Clodagh.

Following the benevolence of GoFundMe donors online, Ann Marie said "thank you doesn't even come close."

"To say we are blown away by the support from you all in less than 24hs, to reach the target of 3 months medication, is putting it mildly. The way you have all rallied to help our most vulnerable at a time of great need is heart warming & humbling.

"On behalf of Clodagh, thank you, thank you," she added.
