300 jobs heading to Doncaster Sheffield Airport site as industrial manufacturer sets up £17m smart factory

Industrial machinery manufacturer Lontra is to land at a newly-built business park at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, with a £17 million investment creating 300 jobs.

A long-term letting on the 59,271 sq ft building, part of Avion Business Park, has been completed with Trebor Developments, with plans for a smart factory to be realised immediately.

The move is backed by a £7 million funding package from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

When first revealing plans in October, Steve Lindsey, chief executive of Lontra said: “We are thrilled to open our first factory in the region with the support of South Yorkshire MCA. This is a region that’s incredibly progressive and we are proud to be a part of their innovation story.

“We are honoured to bring a commitment of long-term innovation and economic growth, both for Lontra as a business and for South Yorkshire.”

The completion follows a neighbouring letting by Trebor to SCS in January for manufacturing and distribution use.

Bob Tattrie, managing partner of Trebor, said: “We are very pleased to see both these speculative units let to long term occupiers. It supports our commitment to build speculative, high quality, industrial units at this location which will see considerable further growth over the coming years. Our commitment to undertaking developments in the region remains very strong with a range of further industrial sites coming forward.”

Trebor and joint venture partner Hillwood are represented by CPP & Knight Frank, Sheffield.

Rebecca Schofield, partner at Knight Frank, said: “The two units at Avion are finished to a high specification and are located in an advantageous prime position with easy access to the M18 at J3 as well as being located adjacent to Doncaster Sheffield Airport. This was attractive to incoming occupiers and we are pleased to see the lettings now complete.”

Ed Norris, director at CPP, added: “The conclusion of the two lettings is fantastic news and testament to the quality of the units on offer and the increasing appeal of the wider DSA as an established and growing business location.”

Lontra will use the site to specialise in low pressure blower production.

It will manufacture products to be used around the globe in food, pharmaceutical and water treatment sectors.

Glyn Jones, portfolio holder for business at Doncaster Council, said: ‘We look forward to welcoming Lontra to Doncaster and their occupation of the Avion Building. Our Business Doncaster team have worked closely with the company on their recruitment and supply chain requirements and we look to continue our successful working relationship as they establish themselves and then have a long and successful future in Doncaster."
