300 families from the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin and 150 families attending Waterford University Hospital will take part in the pilot scheme.
Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman said expressed his delight at seeing the new Baby Bundles welcomed by expecting parents.
He lauded the success of the scheme in "other jurisdictions" and said that through the pilot, the Irish Government can get a real idea from parents of how well the scheme works.
"Our hope is that the bundles will be a welcome gift from the State for the new arrivals, full of the kind of practical items that parents need in those first few weeks and months," he added.
Health and wellbeing of infants is to the forefront of the scheme on top of the intention to support new parents who are just starting off in their parenting journey.
Expectant parents will take part in the pilot initiative by submitting a form after their 20-week scan.
Items are set to be sent to parents' houses after they select a suitable time.
Parents involved will help guide the initiative in the further development and proposals to aid a further roll-out of the bundles.
The Little Baby Bundle is an initiative under First 5, which is part of a whole-of-government strategy for babies, young children and their families 2019-2028.
