30 Funny Space Comics From “The Adventures Of Cap’n Martina” That Take Humor To Another Galaxy

Space may be vast, cold and mostly silent, but aboard Cap’n Martina’s ship, there’s rarely a quiet moment. A mysterious rumble that sends the crew into a panic turns out to be someone’s growling stomach, a run-in with a space rock goes about as badly as you’d expect, and a routine malfunction quickly becomes a full-blown cosmic embarrassment. The Adventures of Cap’n Martina turns life among the stars into a string of wonderfully absurd mishaps, carried by a quirky crew that never seems more than one bad decision away from disaster.

The series comes from The Beauforts Comics, which began on March 1, 2009, as a weather cartoon on the website of Midwest meteorologist Terry Swails. Early characters even carried weather-inspired names like Eddy, Gale, Radar and Aurora, before the strip grew into a broader universe. That curiosity about science still shows. One panel might drop a real fact about Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, where lakes are filled with liquid methane instead of water. The next might land a pun about cosmic “rock stars.” Bright colors, expressive faces and short, punchy dialogue keep the jokes moving, and the Beauforts characters have even been used in learning programs and in books like Decoding Asthma and Decoding Food Allergies.

We’ve gathered 30 comics from The Adventures of Cap’n Martina, presented in order so you can follow the crew’s misadventures as they unfold. Scroll down, buckle up and let us know what you think of Cap’n Martina and her gloriously chaotic team.
