Hess, fellow oil explorer Diamondback Energy and Newmont Mining were the top three S&P 500 index gainers on the stock market today. Adobe, ResMed and Signature Bank were the S&P 500's biggest losers on Wednesday.
HES stock rose 4.6% to 106.22, hitting a fresh high as U.S. crude oil prices jumped 5.2% to $114.93 a barrel.
FANG stock popped 3.85% to 142.64. Diamondback cleared a brief consolidation to hit a new high.
NEM stock gained 3.8% to 78.91, a closing high for the gold mining giant. Newmont stock is on IBD Leaderboard.
Energy and commodity plays dominated the S&P 500 winners on Wednesday.
S&P 500 Losers
ADBE stock plunged 9.3% to 422.90 in heavy volume, not far from a 23-month low set earlier this month. Adobe earnings topped fiscal Q1 views late Tuesday, but the software giant's Q2 guidance was light.
RMD stock dived 8.65% to 233. ResMed, maker of sleep apnea and other respiratory devices, knifed below its 50-day moving average.
SBNY stock tumbled 6.6% to 299.99, near its 200-day line. On Monday, Signature Bank stock briefly moved above its 50-day line on a strong day for financials. Signature Bank is getting into the cryptocurrency custodial business.
